Chapter 10 - The Present

Chapter 10 of my life story brings us virtually to the present day  It's been an interesting journey to get this far. The earlier chapters were about me as an individual and the later ones have been about me and my family unit.

Anne was a qualified teacher for many years and worked for a number of years at Cringleford School which is about three miles from where we live. She still helps out there whenever possible and has taken on a number of other interests including being a member of two local art groups and working half a day a week in the local MacMillan charity shop. I changed jobs a number of times within Norfolk Constabulary, ending as Head of Marketing Operations. Previously I had held a number of posts including Head of Media, Media and Public Relations Manager and Head of Electronic Communications. My final job with the police involved marketing the force and looking after content of the internet and internal intranet systems. In November 2006 I took early retirement from this position in order to follow a number of business interests and also give me more time to follow my passion for writing. This I continue to do. I work on a freelance basis for a Norwich company Media and Crisis Management providing support and working on their behalf with the oil companies at Bacton and other areas. I have two functions, firstly as a frontline Media officer in case of an emergency either on the North Sea oil rigs or the installations and also as an evacuee officer dealing with anybody taken off the rigs through illness or accident. In addition to this my life has gone full circle as I am now village correspondent for the Wymondham and Attlebrough Mercury Newspaper and the Norwich Evening News and every week send in copy from the village. It's been good to get back to the function of a weekly reporter in Norfolk.

Chris has settled in the Eastbourne area. He is a  PE teacher at Bexhill On Sea and in September 2006 was appointed Head of PE which isn't a bad progression for somebody who was still only 25. Sadly his marriage to Lynne has broken down and they have separated.

Matt worked at Park Farm Hotel after finishing university and in May 2006 began his training as a police officer with Norfolk Constabulary. His passing our parade was at the beginning of September, 2006 and he is now a fully fledged police officer working in Norwich. He is a trained firearms officer and also trained in Royalty Protection. He currently lives with long term girlfriend Emma in Wymondham and they are expecting their first child and our first grandchild in October 2011. They are also busy planning a wedding in the not too distant future.

As for myself, well I have decided to start a weekly blog to keep you informed of what is happening in my life and my thoughts about everything from politics to sport. Do contact me if you agree or disagree strongly with anything I write. I can be e-mailed by clicking here. I am now totally immersed in village life. I am village correspondent for two newspapers, edit and write a village web site at, am chair of Hethersett Athletic Football Club, chair of Hethersett and the Meltons Sports Association, Development Officer for Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club, a trustee of Hethersett Memorial Playing Field and a member of the Hethersett Olympic Committee.
