Glasvegas - Glasvegas (2008) - 6.5

Flowers and Football Tops, Geraldine, It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry, Lonesome Swan, Go Square Go, Polmont on My Mind, Daddy's Gone, Stabbed, S.A.D. Light, Ice Cream Van.

Overtly Scottish and obviously proud of it, the Glaswegian vocals are even stronger than those of arch Scotsmen the Proclaimers. This is still one of the best albums of 2008. At times angry, at times stark, Glasvegas don't pull back from looking at topics including violence, broken families and any other number of subjects that lesser bands might pull away from. "It's My Own Cheating Heart the Makes Me Cry" is a poignant song with pounding beat and vocals that threaten to get out of control but always get back on track. There is a vitality and originality to the album that the band might find difficult to sustain over subsequent albums
